Student team Totem Game Dev, from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), has recently completed its newest video game: MomenTUm Kart. Inspired by Mario Kart, the game allows students to race against each other across a 3D recreation of the TU/e campus, using unique power-ups and vehicles designed by student teams, study associations, and research groups.
The game was developed especially for MomenTUm, TU/e’s annual graduation ceremony celebrating the university’s newest group of engineers, which took place on September 26, 2025. As part of the event, students competed for weeks on an online leaderboard for the chance to face off against members of the Executive Board during the live finale at the ceremony.
Development
Development of MomenTUm Kart took place over a two-month summer period and was carried out by a team of six dedicated, multidisciplinary developers. The project was commissioned by Artishock, the external marketing agency responsible for organizing MomenTUm. Totem Game Dev, known for its innovative student-led projects, aimed to create a game that would bring together the entire TU/e community in a playful and interactive way.
Features
MomenTUm Kart features a detailed recreation of the TU/e campus, allowing players to race past well-known buildings such as Atlas, Flux, and Auditorium. The game supports up to four players, both online and locally, making it suitable for competitive and social play alike.
Vehicles were designed in collaboration with various TU/e teams, including University Racing Eindhoven (URE), TU/ecomotive, and Team VOID, allowing players to drive cars, rockets, and trikes inspired by real projects from the university. TU/e-themed power-ups add another layer of fun and chaos to the race—ranging from speed boosts to clever references to campus life.
And now?
Following the ceremony, MomenTUm Kart has found a permanent place on Totem’s custom-built arcade machine, allowing students and staff to enjoy the game for years to come. The team is already looking ahead, exploring the addition of new vehicles, power-ups, and campus tracks to expand the experience even further and finalize its development.
